I found myself in church recently (it happens very rarely!) as part of the Hugh O’Flaherty Memorial weekend and the very contemporary Papal Nuncio to Ireland, Archbishop Charles John Brown from the US presided over a special mass in honour of Hugh O’Flaherty, Ireland’s World War 2 Hero.
I thought the gospel (bear with me guys, this is going somewhere…) was very relevant with our Budget coming up soon –
Mark 12 – The Widow’s Offering
Jesus sat down near the collection box in the Temple and watched as the crowds dropped in their money. Many rich people put in large amounts. Then a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins.
Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions. For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she had to live on.”
In the budget our bunch need to make sure they grab the nettle and take what is required from those who can afford it and where there is genuine excess they need to cut it out and please, don’t expect to take the two coins from the widow and all of those like her.

… the only nettle needed to be grabbed (grasped) is that the CID just don’t have a clue what to do and, whatever they do do, we’ll still be in the “do do”…

this government do not care one bit about the *dope* paying his excessive taxes, and trying to keep going, what was instilled into us as kids and growing up was not to be a burden, being a burden meant drawing the dole, and that was taboo, how quickly all this changed, we now have more sucking off those willing to work, but are being robbed and robbed by an incompetent governments have the present lot learned from the previous lot, that is why they were in power for 19 years, which gave them ample time to rob plunder set up their cronies for which we are now supposed to pay

Good man Greg, love it. However there’re ain’t no Jesus in Government, plenty of Judas’s ok. So dream on, Perhaps next Sunday’s gospel might be where he threw the tax collectors etc out of the temple. Then we and the little poor widow has a chance.
